This episode is an interview with John Martineau titled "Quadrivium - Number, Geometry, Music, & Cosmology" and is being released on Monday, February 07, 2011. My interview with John was recorded on February 07, 2011.
Today we'll be revisiting the Quadrivium, but this time with John Moniteau from Wooden Books, publisher of, amongst many books, the Quadrivium.
Architectural consultant and publisher, John has published more than 50 books on all subjects related to the modern sciences and ancient arts.
In this interview we'll talk with John about how he got started, the ideas behind his work and future publications of Wooden Books.

Not going to pick this apart but the one point to re-analyze is those “half round” blocks. The test data suggests that they were at least last used around 2000-1500BC which is when structures like the pyramid and surrounds were being robbed of their stones. Not to mention they are very crude when compared to the advanced machining shown in the pyramids and surrounding structure. Now that to me screams well ahem, a destruction of what was by the thieves of history. But as for the UFO jab well, how then do you explain the artifacts that point to ancient flight? Although I don’t see aircraft being implement in this type of construction so…keep on guessing! To note modern architects can’t even begin to contemplate this level of construction. Not to be mean but they don’t think in ways that allow this kind of structure to exist. So step back and look at it again, like Bill Hicks said it’s bullsh!t piece of crap. Don’t think that those who are currently inhabiting the lands are the originators of not only the structure but the base culture and knowledge as well. That would be swallowing the lie, not just buying it! The mass population is not in fact a human but an animal made to seem human I for one like animals as animals not talking monkeys! And you can teach even the greatest of beasts to mimic human mannerisms, but talking walking up right ETC> ETC> does not human make. So chatter on prey animals chatter on, eat some now save none for later.
Gene, if there’s someone who’s going to nick pick something about each show, it’s probably going to be you. 😉
If we don’t understand something, then why we must make the greatest leaps and jump to conclusions possible? That it’s UFOs, Lizard People, butt worms, or anything other than the local inhabitants, who lived next to the greatest scientific center in antiquity – Alexandria – let’s never consider they built them. Let’s never look to the same people (which often carries racist overtones – brown people), who have happened to live there for many thousands of years.
New Agers will try to tell you that the Inca couldn’t have built or moved those huge stones (more brown people) that they couldn’t have cut and fit them into place. And yet today, thousands of years later, they’ll tell you exactly how it was done. Not saying the two are the same, but let’s apply Occam’s Razor for the least amount of logical jumps possible and let’s not say Aliens did it – as that’s as baseless a conclusion as one could possibly come to.
Let’s go back and study and apply the trivium here – grammar, logic, and rhetoric – critical thinking.
And please show me evidence of aliens that can’t also be just as easily applied to psychedelic experiences – as I’ve often discussed. Also, if you have anything peer reviewed, anything other than David Icke and Zacharia Sitchen, then we’ll talk.
Jan, thank you for your work. You are truly an amazing person.
Jan, thanks my brother! interesting show, you and your guests turn some unknowns to knowns and some knowns to unknowns.
with utmost respect for you and my other brother (or maybe sister) Gene, i feel compeled to give some knowns back in return. please do look at these: http://deoxy.org/video/nZP8-T2ZXq0 and http://deoxy.org/video/Yz7DAN5phxY
and take care of yourselves by cutting out any stress 😉 (& yes i intentionally do not use capital letters except in names)
Keep spreading the word Jan. My work keeps me on the road many hours a week & your podcasts are the best on the web.
I recently explained(introduced) the Trivium at a corporate meeting to help managers criticaly think. I mostly got a bunch of blank looks, but I felt better closing the gap by attempting to explain it..
thats very interesting! that raises some questions which i hope you’ll answer.
1)which corporate? (just joking)
2)the purpose of introducing them to trivium? (corporate growth?)
3)have you paid your dues to gnosticmedia? (pulling you legs mate)
ps! no i’ve not paid my dues, i’m jobless and soon wont even be able to tune in to gnosticmedia, but thats my loss.
Jan, quite amazing interview. Really extraordinary. Something very odd happened as I was listening to the last segment, we got to the part about ice haloes, and lo and behold, very strange to relate – everything literally froze…at 01:30:13! I have been unable to get past this point. Now, is that peculiar or what?
I’ve been a bit of a fan of Wooden Books for some time, but never knew anything about my countryman John Martineau until now. This is a truly remarkable talk and it has left me quite inspired. Something I want to mention – two things actually: the first is about dance, as I could’t stop thinking that what he was describing about our solar system’s harmonic geometry was actually like a dance. It immediately made me think about bees. This also ties back into something I wanted to share with you that I came across in a book entitled African Dance http://www.amazon.co.uk/African-Dance-Kariamu-Welsh-Asante/dp/0865431973
I referred to this interesting work during my PGCE (post grad cert ed) studies about 9 years ago when as a mature student I had just started my post-graduate education at what was then Plymouth University’s education faculty in Exmouth, Devon. What I learned in one of these essays was the idea that the commonly held belief that dancers move to music is entirely fallacious in a traditional African context. What really happens is that the musicians follow the movement of the dancer and improvise from that. There must be a message there that relates to all this.
The second thing I feel impelled to mention, relates to John’s remarks about the new metaphysical speculation that Martin Rees’ multiverse…(a term coined originally by Wm James)…style cosmology, is now evoking. M. Rees Reith Lectures last year were OKish but not Earth shaking http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00sj9lh He is also on The Long Now website but I haven’t heard that one yet http://longnow.org/seminars/02010/aug/02/lifes-future-cosmos/ as well as Wade Davis, see my previous comment. When John spoke of musical “granulations” it hearkened back to something I refer to briefly in that previous comment also posted today (as I’m in catch-up gnosticmedia-mode) on Christopher Knowles’ interview and Indian ragas. I have occasionally experienced this as a literal granulation of consciousness, both from entheogenics and spontaneously as a direct cosmic influx of perception (c.f. Whitehead’s “corpuscular” theory) and I can’t help feel that this is somehow linked to some type of quantum molecular resonance in the neurotransmitter potential of the brain and nervous system, possibly involving the architecture of the pineal – that I believe is also implicated in DMT synthesis. I think John may be on to something quite profoundly significant. Many thanks for this excellent podcast, I’ll certainly think about it a great deal. Who knows, with any luck I may even be able to hear the last few minutes now if I reload and listen again! This has been a very long now…
A short post-script to my previous comment: I did finally get to hear the last eleven minutes. What a great interview. Remarkable also, that eleven came up so much as yesterday was 11/11 and the occasion of a triumphant moment in the history of Egypt. I subsequently listened to Martin Rees on The Long Now (ever thought of interviewing Stewart Brand, Jan? his ideas are very controversial & Lovelockian in the extreme now as he supports nuclear power as an ecological solution – something I think Dr Jim Harding from Saskatchewan would oppose strenuously http://vimeo.com/11071663…but this is deeply contentious issue that also involves the case of Leonard Peltier.) The Rees lecture is worth hearing. For the record, I immediately ordered a couple of affordable Wooden Books on the strength of John’s talk. I really look forward to your podcasts. Even though times are tough for old, nit-picking independent scholars and I am not able to donate much, I’ll do my best toward the end of this month to scrape up some dollars, kindest regards from North Devon.
PPS – excuse my odd maths, I should have written 11/02/11 (English style dating) but that makes it even more interesting as 2×11/7 is the pi fraction that is also an important structural element in Indian classical music. I’m risking getting way out of my depth, so I’ll just pipe down and wait patiently for your promised Jason Martineau interview…very many thanks for a superb few hours of Gnostic Media at its best
Hello Jan thanks for the good work, yes since hard the Gene Odening on Trivium and Quadrivium can apply to Italian and Spanish.Speak both fluent and yeah they do have the same fallacies more or less also in this interview it reminded me of Michael S Schnider from Red Ice Radio Creations check him out and his site peace. He might add some more details and would go awesome to add Red Ice to PeaceRevolution etc…We all in the same boat.

ok, it’s no coincidence i stumbled on this page, i’d seen a launch of the “coincidence” film idea/trailer in london. I must say i wasn’t grabbed by the script in the trailer (or the hollow voice over, get a pro in future) and in fact I became quite confused half-way through. Maybe i’ll get the books and it will throw a little more light on what John’s getting at, I can see the apparent significance of the numbers, the relative orbits, how they are observed from earth, kepler’s laws etc, phi spirals, and arrangement’s of matter in space, as i am a biologist with maths/astronomer leanings, however having abandonded such studies in the late 80s I came to the conclusion that this is all purely intellectual activity without any real Heart. My point being that, only architects, musicians etc, will find these theories interesting or of any practical value. However, find some meaningful relevance to day to day matters and bring that into your ideas and maybe you’ll hit the “mass market” appeal you seek. The natural universe exists As Is (Why Not ?) and it is a predictable function of matter to arrange itself at every scale, from crystal lattice to astronomical in certain ways – just enjoy it and its fruits, and not analyse its order or function. (Unless of course you need to)
Harmonographs. Discordant tones produce ugly pictures…direct analogue. Now, I simply wish to compliment the Author…and says some nice things to Mr. Martineau. I, my family and friends are fascinated by the harmonogrphs in your Quadrivium. I am going to see this certainty in my “mind’s eye” as I listen to any kind of music in future. Thank you. Similarly…I will look for the triangular nature of Galactic Geometry. Yes, Mr. Martineau…as you say, I will have to study the Quadrivium, to “get it.” We wanted to say thank you for your many years of study…and your sense of wonder…passed along to us. We shall remember the Kiss of Venus…and the words of John Donne. Phi to 1 and 1 to Phi. And so, “…we make heaven, come to us.” We will be looking for your Trivium books as they arrive! Cheers!
Yeah, but you’d have to apply the critical thinking of the trivium in the first place so you wouldn’t waist your thoughts on such nonsense. The quadrivium in no way whatsoever, shape or form supports McKenna and the CIA’s BS 2012 end of time theory.
