Somewhat related – an interesting description of the hippie / drug scene in SF in the 60’s. Starts at 7:20 goes to 15:00

Really enjoying this series, Jan – and great work Steve. Thanks!
We were aware of some of this history, have been to Black Rock City several times and totally loved it regardless; there seems to be some level of insidious influence behind just about everything these days. As in any large city, or the internet, the experience differs and affects one according to what is focused on.
My partner and I don’t generally do herd events/concerts. Like many, we heard that the burn was all about drugs, trance music, sex and alcohol – no attraction there. But a friend’s experience convinced us to go in 2004, ‘The Vault of Heaven’; we found it to be a unique escape from the contaminated mainstream culture we’re steeping in. We enjoyed the alternative perspective on society, the magical environment, gift principle, creative buzz, amazing art, intellectual explorations – the endless range of experiences have the potential to reset one’s perception of the programmed world. This is a good thing. The bad thing is the ever-mounting fed influence and controls. We’ve not gone since 2011 because of this.
So, now a question for Steve – at the San Francisco Airport, we noticed a plaque with a logo very similar to the Burn Man logo, see link – http://www.bashof.org/Officers.html – is this connected as in some sort of control/tax shelter thing or is it just a coincidence?
Great find, thanks. I have never seen this connection before, I’ll look into it – definitely one to ding the Coincidence Meter with.
Steve
There are a lot of places named Burning Tree. Any relation? For example, this Bohemian Grove style golf club in D.C.:
Burning Tree Club is a private, all-male golf club in Bethesda, Maryland. The course at Burning Tree has been played by numerous presidents, foreign dignitaries, high-ranking executive officials, members of Congress, and military leaders. Presidents including Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and George Herbert Walker Bush have been extended honorary membership. There are no women’s facilities at the club. Female taxi drivers are not allowed inside the gate. When a woman flying a small plane crashed near the 18th hole in the 1950s, Burning Tree employees quickly secured an area around the pilot and wreckage until the police arrived, when she was removed from the barbwire-protected grounds.
sounds very similar to Bohemian Grove, thanks. Fire cults are all over the world, and ancient.
The Wicker man enigma , A documentary about the 1973 film “The Wicker Man” which was based on the 1967 book “Ritual”

A synopsis of the book “Ritual”
“The protagonist of Ritual is an English police officer named David Hanlin. A puritanical Christian, Hanlin is requested to investigate what appears to be the ritualistic murder of a local child in an enclosed rural Cornish village. During his short stay, Hanlin deals with psychological trickery, sexual seduction, ancient religious practices and nightmarish sacrificial rituals”
