good job though. i hope you go back on his show again soon. you can reach a massive audience that could seriously benefit from your work and insights. (not to mention drive more traffic to gnostic media, easily the best online podcast by far.) i’d also like to hear you help wake Jones up about psychedelics a bit more.

Outstanding Job Jan, glad you called Alex on his frequent abuse of appeal to fear. Also props for bringing up psychedelics, religion & messages from the sponsor. Loved “We don’t want to be in the Skinner Box”. You made a dent in a few belief systems today and know this interview will get your efforts the exposure it deserves. Thanks for representing the community!

If we were all in the ocean, and someone was screaming that there was a shark coming, would you call him a fearmongerer?

      • Jan Irvin
        July 19, 2011 at 12:54 am

That’s a red herring. We’re not discussing sharks in the water. We’re discussing the use of fear as a fallacy to persuade people.

          Actually, Jan, it’s an analogy.

A bad one, used as a red herring.

Its actually a pretty terrible interview, he’s very hard to listen to, no articulate at all

      • Jan Irvin
        July 19, 2011 at 1:05 am

That’s hilarious coming from someone who’s inarticulate and uses improper grammar in his claim against articulation. Is that like the pot calling the kettle black? Hypocrisy anyone?

Who in the interview are you talking about (fallacy of equivocation)? What was being said, specifically, that you didn’t understand (fallacy of hasty generalization, sweeping statement)? What other possible elements have you considered that might make it hard to understand, such as an interviewer who constantly interrupts, or commercials, and lack of time? Where in the interview was it (fallacy of ad ignorantium?)? When did you attempt to understand what was being said and ask questions (fallacy of ad hominem and appeal to ridicule)? Why are you here on this website replying if you didn’t find it of interest (hypocrisy?)? What systematic method did you use for deriving certainty?

And most importantly, who benefits by you holding your current beliefs?

          Jan,

I think he must have been referring to Alex. I heard the interview and thought you did very well and were extremely patient with his unintended rudeness. Alex’s biggest downfall is his inability to let people finish their thoughts before stepping on their words. Drives me crazy to hear him do that constantly. Yeah, we KNOW what he thinks, we wanna hear what his guests and callers have to say!!

He did wake me up, though. I’ve been listening to him for 4 plus years now and still feel he’s the best for delivering the important news of the day, but I’ve made it through the entire Peace Revolution Podcast and am now beginning to tackle your archive! The work you guys are doing is absolutely amazing and priceless!

Ultimately, the answer lies in what ALL of you are doing, albeit, you, Richard, James Corbett, Stefan Molyneux, James Evan Pilato and Paul Verge are definitely on the cutting edge of creating and directing people to the SOLUTIONS we need to fix this fucked up world. Alex is great for reporting on the real problems we face and defining the source of our real enemy(ies), but your podcasts and the collective works of the Peace Revolution crew was the inspiration I needed to seek the solutions and begin to work towards them personally. I’ve realized that nothing will change until WE change. Thanks for all you do and have done! You and your colleagues are true American heroes!

BTW, I received my copy of “The Trivium” by Sister Miriam Joseph last week! Looking forward to learning more!

Great interview, i was VERY glad to hear such talk on the Alex Jones show. Alex Jones already has a large following of people who have become very informed on conspiracies & the like, but they are the EXACT people who are still afraid to as you put it ‘make the occult no longer occult’. Its so important for people to realize they have no fully woken up if they have not done this. Knowing and merging both sides of the spectrum is very rewarding, and will guarantee the success of the people. I cannot stress this enough. The challenge is communicating to people who think they have it all figured that there is indeed much for them to learn, and I commend you for doing that on the Alex Jones show.

    @EROCx1
yeah, but, you know, fear moves products and AJ has to make a living 😉

  9. July 7, 2011 at 6:34 am

What I saw happen here, is what happens with all of Alex’s guests. He constantly interjected, so he could reword, reinterpret and simplify your statements, making them appeal to fear and anger. It seemed that every time you were getting into the real core of the trivium, and how people could observe and use it, Alex would divert the conversation by connecting it to much more generalized issues. He would reinterpret your statements into his own sensationalized language, and would attempt to dilute the specifics by reframing them in a much more simplified way. This is what Alex always seems to do; whenever a guest is attempting to put across a methodical description of something, and is trying to encourage a calm, rational analysis, he prevents them from doing so by spinning it out in his own sensationalized rhetoric, and equating it with the outrage of the day. You see the same thing every time with him, he has to reinterpret his guest’s statements to fit with his evangelical agenda. I think you still did a good job in getting the basics across though, and in calling Alex out on his fear mongering and advertising. =)

I was listening and noticed the same thing. As a Communications major with a focus on Media Studies I immediately recognized Alex using self-censorship and gate-keeping tactics in order to keep Jan from stating ideas that would offend a certain base of Alex’ listeners. I found it disruptive to the flow of information and the ideas were reinterpreted by Alex to keep his ideals at the center of focus. I was very fortunate to have heard this broadcast though because it gave an outlet to pursue the ideas I am looking for and missing in formal education. Congratulations on the show and I hope to continue exploring these ideas from here on out. I mean, what a coincidence, I just got a book on Pythagoras and had no one to discuss these ideas with. I feel very lucky, of course I have been using Alex for his guests and not his ideas for a while now.

Hi Jan, I’m glad you came on Alex Jones today. I listen regularly or try to and check out the site for new info. I don’t buy into his fear mongering at all. I realize this is for entertainment purposes. If you are aware and have your eyes open you can see through this and still get a lot out of his program. I immediately saw that you were an extremely well educated and aware guest and came to your website. I am so glad I found out about you and thank AJ for bringing you on. I took logic and philosophy in college, but I believe it was a watered down and not at all as eye opening as how you present it. I hope to learn more from your site and perhaps order some books in the near future. Thank you for your work. BTW, are there any philosophy/Socratic meetup groups that you know of in the DC metro area? thanks again.

I find it real hard to listen to Mr Jones. Jan you did a great job, tried to get your point across real relaxed, but this guy screaming incoherent sentences in my ear really makes it hard to follow. I reckon a study of rhetoric wouldnt be a bad idea for Mr Jones (he makes me think of Dylans’ ‘Mr Jones’ song). Still, good to see you spreading the 7 liberal arts (and related issues) at these media-outlets. Keep it up

I would call it more fear-based societal ignorance rather than disinformation. I don’t think Alex knows any better about this stuff. It’s not his area of expertise. Maybe he’s willing to learn and be corrected. I’d give him the benefit of the doubt.

        Hi Jan.

Having listened to AJ a lot for a couple of years I hear him talking about the government and drug use all the time. I’m very interested in your comment about whether he’d be “willing to learn and be corrected”. I’d like to understand what you’re suggesting he needs to learn so I can have a balanced understanding. Can you direct me to a podcast for what you’re implying he should learn?

        Cheers.

Hi Dan, This was already posted above. Alex’s fear mongering rant on DMT from about 2 or 3 weeks ago:
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BKzuzjjCro&feature=player_embedded

I’ve done over 50 podcasts here with more than 50 of the world’s leading experts on entheogens, on top of being an expert in the field myself. Alex’s psychedelic fear mongering couldn’t be more wrong or ill-informed. Just go through the list of podcasts and you’ll see many dozens there. Enjoy!

Well, what an interesting week it’s been. Talk about turn my world upside down!

Yeah I watched the YT video first and now I’ve just finished watching “The Pharmacratic Inquisition” on Google Video…

Where do I start. As a christian myself, It was really eye-opening to see. I’m looking forward to watching it again, and probably a few more times after that. I’ve wondered for a long time if us Christians had been duped… Looks like we might have been to some degree. I’m going to enjoy the investigation. On first viewing it made a lot of sense… Further down the rabbit hole we go hey?

What a crazy world we live in… lol…

            Cheers Jan…

Hi Jan- heard you on Alex Jones yesterday. I noted that Alex became uncomfortable when it sounded like you were going to tell him his religious beliefs were based on malarkey, and also that his commercials were full of boloney. Alex serves me well at this point; I am aware of things in the political realm that I would not be otherwise. I also find his offerings need to be scrutinized rather carefully. Some of what he offers doesn’t stand up to scrutiny; can’t put my finger on it but I believe some belief structure he has is limiting or significantly coloring what he believes to be true. Yet he serves the waking process to a high degree, imo.

I am interesting in investigating the material you presented. Where’s the first place to go to get started getting educated in this?

Jones is a charlatan. I hope some of his listeners will understand your points and use it to see through his schtick.

You did a good interview Jan Erving & lm gonna get familiar with the trivium method. There are no contradictions in nature/reality. Manmade, manufactured, artificial=contradiction. The true vs. the fantastic imagination. How to think & not what to think. Going to your site & get some schooling!

    Hi Jan,

It was great to see you on the Alex Jones and know that your information will be heard by millions of people around the globe! Both of you have very important information that we all need to be aware of. It may be frightening to some to know what is going in this world but we find it reassuring that the truth and trivium is getting out there and are doing are part to promote both.

“We must, indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately.”

“We don’t have a future unless we turn this around”

Alex Jones show? People still listen to that crap? Alex got exposed a long time ago, for bringing false info, ignoring certain facts, scaremongering, etc.
Hopefully the listeners of the AJ show switch their channel to GnosticMedia, or something similar.

      July 13, 2011 at 2:28 pm

Hi Eric. I’ve been listening to AJ for a while now and have different opinions about him on on different days. When was it he was exposed exactly? Can you provide some instances of the false info, the facts he ignored and what you believe to be his scaremongering? I’d like to look into it… They are some interesting comments you made but really require backing up…

      • Dan

    Hi Jan.

I caught you on the AJ show the other day and really enjoyed it. I’ve listened to the 3 pt series of you and Gene every day all week and have been taking it all in, along with the Labossiere interviews. Pt 3 of the Odening interview is especially good. Thank you for your work. Alex did make it a bit difficult for you as he is want to do but you still got your message out. All in all, great job and you’ll be sure to see me around here some more…

As for AJ, it’s his guests that keep me coming back, like you for example. I get a bit bored of him repeating the same stuff over and over again but I understand why he does it. His show is based on waking new people up and not really targeted to those who are awake and need something more, like “what to do about it now you’re awake”.

I use him as a base to spring off from. His delivery is meant to jolt you and get your attention and for the most part it seems to have worked considering the size of his following. But sometimes you do have to turn him off for a while… I think it must be really difficult for him actually. If you go looking for corruption, you’ll find it… It’s simple Law of Attraction. But, he seems to be onto most things before the MSM…

    Thanks again. Great job…

Don’t Cap on Alex too much, he does have one thing over Jan’ he is entertaining keeps attention and is social, Just as Joe Rogan said, ear beatings are not good for this area of the media.

Great site keep it interesting and you win mind at least on popular media.

In psychology, there is the idea that children in an abusive and dysfunctional home … will blame themselves for the bad treatment from thier parents or ‘authority’, and think “it must be me, I’m bad, because my parents are good and MUST LOVE ME”. This is carried through into adulthood with authority. OUR GOVERNMENT HAS OUR BEST INTEREST AT HEART…THEY HAVE TO???
