Interesting article with a photo of Welles doing the one eye gesture.

    http://www.freepresshouston.com/blu-ray-slight-return-fake-edtion/

“The Other Side of the Wind, Welles’ unfinished last film that was shot over a period of years in the 1970s, has finally wrangled free of the legal proceedings that have prevented its completion and will be released in 2015”

“F is For Fake (Criterion Collection, 10/21) purports to examine fraud in art, in literature and in film. Welles combines imagery from such diverse sources as Earth vs. Flying Saucers as well as footage Welles shot with Oja Kodar, Clifford Irving (who spent 17 months in prison for writing a fictional autobiography of Howard Hughes), and fine art forger Elmyr de Hory. F is For Fake unwinds in the manner of a documentary essay where Welles tells us right from the start that not everything we witness will be true…”

“Welles had worked for Howard Hughes when he made films at RKO Studios and offers his own reflections of the man to go along with the now famous press conference where Hughes was interviewed by a round table of journalists by telephone regarding the Irving scandal. They were interviewing his disembodied voice Welles points out.”

Another score! There is a back story to all this that has not gotten any attention: There was a real parallel invasion that was successful, the Martians continued on to found the Republican Party in New Jersey. It explains Chris Christie and all our current woe’s in the Garden State !
On a somewhat more serious note: The broadcast looks like the pre-cursur to all the hysteria that followed 9-11 . It looks like all that research that went on back in the day didn’t go to waste. The movie project that Persas Rho mentions was a Kickstarter project if memory serves me right. And what of Wells ? Married into European Royalty . His background warrants some investigation as well.
Another interesting corollary to this would be an in-depth study of Communitarianism and the influence into the present state of the Militarization of Law Enforcement and the NGO’s (GLIEE, JINSA).

Panic (1935 play) Written by Archibald MacLeish
    Date premiered March 14, 1935
    starring: Orson Welles
I don’t recall if you talked about this during the program.
MacLeish’s story would be a long and interesting study as well.

“written during the sixth year of the Great Depression. The drama is set during the bank panic of 1933 and concerns the fall of the world’s richest man, a banker named McGafferty. First presented March 14–16, 1935, at the Imperial Theatre in Manhattan, the production featured Orson Welles’s first leading performance on the American stage.” the producer John Houseman chose Welles for the part,
